Vegan Jalapeno Cheese Artisan Bread Recipe

This vegan jalapeno cheese artisan bread has a crispy crust and soft, chewy inside with melty vegan cheddar and spicy jalapeno. No kneading required!

Ingredients
  

  • 3 ½ cups 420g all-purpose flour or bread flour – Bread flour gives extra chewiness
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder optional, adds depth of flavor
  • 1 ½ cups warm water 110°F / 43°C – Activates the yeast
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil – Adds moisture and enhances crust
  • 1 cup vegan jalapeño cheddar cheese shredded or diced – Use a good melty brand
  • 2 –3 fresh jalapeños chopped – Adjust to your spice preference

Instructions
 

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, instant yeast, salt, and optional garlic powder.

Add the Wet Ingredients

  • Pour in the warm water and olive oil. Mix with a wooden spoon or spatula until a shaggy, sticky dough forms.

Fold in Cheese & Jalapeños

  • Gently fold in the chopped fresh jalapeños and shredded vegan jalapeño cheddar cheese. Don’t overmix—just evenly distribute.

First Rise (12–18 Hours)

  • Cover the bowl with a damp towel or plastic wrap. Let it sit at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours until the dough is bubbly and doubled in size.
  • Shortcut: Proof for 4–6 hours in a warm area (like an oven with the light on).

Shape the Dough

  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Lightly flour your hands and fold the dough over itself a few times to form a round loaf. Place seam-side down on parchment paper. Rest 30–45 minutes.

Preheat the Oven

  • While the dough rests, preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Place a Dutch oven (with lid) inside to heat as well.
  • No Dutch oven? Use a baking stone/sheet and place a pan with hot water on the lower rack to create steam.

Score & Bake

  • Carefully place the dough into the preheated Dutch oven using the parchment paper. Score the top with a sharp knife or lame.
  • Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Then uncover and bake 10–15 more minutes until golden brown.

Cool & Serve

  • Remove the bread from the oven and cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing. Enjoy with vegan butter or your favorite spread!

Notes

• For extra cheesy flavor, sprinkle more vegan cheddar on top before baking.
• No Dutch oven? Use a baking sheet and add steam by placing hot water in a separate pan.
• Store in a paper bag or bread box for up to 3 days.
• Best enjoyed warm with vegan butter or your favorite soup.
